I am from Iraq. I’m 17 years old. I came to Serbia from Turkey, with a group of twelve more people, distant relatives and friends whom I met recently. All of us came together due to the same concerns.

My father lived sixteen years in Germany, and I lived there ten years. That’s where I grew up and went to school. However, we lost our permission to stay so we had to go back to Iraq.

Because of the war I again left Iraq, from home I went to Turkey, then Bulgaria, and now we are in your country. Most of the time we walked. Just to cross Bulgaria we walked for three days, which is more than exhausting. We just walked and walked and walked … We couldn’t rest on our own, otherwise we may have lost the group. I remember the rain … it was the hardest thing when we were walking soaking wet.

I am aware that it will now be more difficult because a huge number of people went there. I know that it will be very difficult to find a job and an apartment. I hope that I will fight and have a safer and better life.
